Jayda launched the Jiffy Weeder in the spring of 2020 to help inspire others to plant gardens and learn about where their food comes from. A gardening tool originally invented by her Grandfather, Bill Jurome, Jayda has reignited this idea to create change on how we farm. Using her family's 1 acre garden by the Belgo Pond, Jayda uses the Jiffy Weeder as a tool to remove weeds & nurture her seedlings into home grown produce. Join Jayda and the family along their gardening journey by following Jiffy Weeder on social media!

Jiffy Weeder History

The Jiffy Weeder was developed by Grandpa J a.k.a Bill Jurome.  He was an entrepreneur, retired business man and avid lifelong gardener. His life was spent on the Belgo Farm in Kelowna, B.C. planting, nourishing and growing fresh vegetables and fruits with his wife Lea. Connecting with the soil from his land was his true passion. He believed everyone should eat from a small garden and dig their hands in the soil to cultivate their well-being.

Bill started raised row gardening in the 90’s and quickly realized he needed a gardening tool to weed, thin and cultivate his young seedlings to ensure his crops would thrive and flourish. At the time there was not a small handheld gardening tool that was efficient, easy to use and reached tight places between plants. So he applied his problem solving skills and spent hours prototyping a tool. In 1993 the Jiffy Weeder was created.
Bill began hand producing these tools and approached retailers in 1994 to sell the Jiffy Weeder. However, during the 90’s distribution of the product was time consuming and required major commitment that took him away from his love for gardening. Bill realized at this stage in life he rather pursue his true passion,  gardening with family and friends. The Jiffy Weeder continued to be used within his close community as it is a timeless tool.

In 2018 Bill passed away and left the Belgo Farm with his family. Every year the Jurome's plant a vegetable garden in memory of Bill.
Bill's grand-daughter Jayda Jurome dug up the Jiffy Weeder when she joined the gardening wave as a hobby in 2020. She wants to make his Jiffy Weeder vision a reality and share these tools with gardeners of all abilities.
